Maasai School and Food Relief Partnership

I’m excited to share that through The Wildlife Blogger Crowd member Jack Lekishon, I’m partnering with Talek Primary School Narok South, Kenya, to use our books to help support education at a time when rural communities around the Maasai Mara have been affected by Covid-19 outbreaks and a subsequent food crisis due to loss of income through halted tourism.

On my shop page, there’s an option to purchase a book to donate to this Primary School in Kenya.

Talek Primary School is a public day and boarding school primary school in Narok South. The total numbers of students enrolled in this school are 438 pupils across 10 classrooms.

I’ll be sending these books out in batches, along with other school supplies — and I hope we can share some of our stories of living alongside our own local wildlife with these future guardians of Africa’s wild species.

World Land Trust Fundraiser

I’m excited to share that the first £100 from book sales will be donated to World Land Trust, to purchase an acre of rainforest, to be protected in the name of the Wildlife Blogger Crowd.

World Land Trust (WLT) is an international conservation charity that protects the world’s most biologically significant and threatened habitats acre by acre.

Through a network of partner organisations around the world, WLT funds the creation of reserves and provides permanent protection for habitats and wildlife. Partnerships are developed with established and highly respected local organisations who engage support and commitment among the local community.

Book launch success!

We did it! We sold some books, raised some money for the Maasai Mara Emergency Food Relief Fund, have ALREADY had some books pledged to a school in Kenya, as part of our partner programme, and we’ve raised money for World Land Trust, too.

One of the things I loved about putting the launch together, was the chance to hand over to, and spotlight, members of The Wildlife Blogger Crowd, as well as sharing my love for some of my other favourite natural history books! Throughout the event, I mentioned the brilliant Bradt guides and why I chose their Journey Books imprint as our publisher.

I also spoke individually about the other books that some of our contributors to Connections With Nature have published. I was great to give a shout out to Bird Therapy, The Big Cat Man, Barry Madden, Tiffany Francis Baker and Alicia Hayden — whose books are all so varied, and so brilliant.

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it over and over again — the people who made this beautiful anthology are so incredibly talented, and it’s wonderful to see them together in one place. Thank you so much guys for putting your submissions forward.

Well done to all contributors — you’ve done something so special, and I’m so proud.
